SOFA Introduction Workshop (Aug. 25th, 9:30-12:00 & 14:00-16:30)

In the scope of the VPH2020 conference, the SOFA consortium organizes training sessions providing the mathematical, physical and computer science backgrounds in order to start in the best conditions with the simulation framework SOFA.

SOFA is an open-source framework for multi-physics simulation and is being developed for more than 14 years. Today, SOFA benefits from a large international community made up of research centers and companies. The SOFA core has a LGPL license (permissive and non-contaminating) fostering development of prototypes and products under any commercial license.

Since the VPH conference is held online, two half-day sessions are organized in order to cover all possible time zones:
  • 9:30 - 12:00: for Asia & Europe
  • 14:00 - 16:30: for America & Europe

The agenda of the training is as follows:

  • Overview of SOFA, its principles and its community
  • Examples of applications with SOFA
  • User tutorial: build a simulation step by step
This SOFA introduction workshop is free for all VPH2020 attendees, but registration is mandatory. Click here to register.

TOFMOD Workshop - Tetralogy of Fallot & Modeling of Diseases (Aug. 25th)

This workshop organized by Inria and UT Southwestern Medical Center Dallas (Associated Team TOFMOD, Tetralogy of Fallot & Modeling of Diseases) aims at discussing modeling tools for clinical questions and problems which are not sufficiently solved by current clinical techniques particularly for congenital heart diseases, of which Tetralogy Of Fallot is an exemplary case.  For detailed information (including abstract submission and registration), please follow this link.

ASME V&V40 Training Course (Aug. 28th, 14:00-17:00)

ASME V&V40 — Assessing Credibility of Computational Modeling and Simulation Results through Verification and Validation: Application to Medical Devices, was published in 2018 to support the credible use of modeling and simulation within the medical device industry.  This standard was developed through close collaboration between medical device developers, regulatory agencies, and other device industry stakeholders, and provides modelers in the medical device industry with a framework for establishing model credibility requirements.  This introductory course will provide an overview of the standard and highlight its key tenets through a few medical device examples and active breakout discussions.

Instructors are the officers of the ASME V&V40 sub-committee:

  • Jeff Bischoff from Zimmer Biomet, Chair
  • Marc Horner from ANSYS, Vice-Chair
  • Payman Afshari from Depuy Synthes, Vice-Chair
  • Kate Hyam from ASME, Secretary

All VPH2020 registered attendees can register for this training course with a 50% discount (see details in VPH2020 registration confirmation email)!
